• Eligibility

    • Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior at Curlew High School
    • Must be in attendance for at least one semester.
    • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2

    Selection Process

    • Cumulative GPA is calculated to determine scholarship eligibility.
    • Eligible students who choose to apply fill out the Student Activity Information form and write a formal letter of interest.
    • Input is given on each candidate by the teaching staff:
      • Leadership –resourceful, promotes school activities, shows academic initiative, positive influence, civic contributions, positive attitude, successfully holds office, is reliable and dependable, leader in the classroom.
      • Service – gladly, cheerfully volunteers, sacrifices to give assistance, works well with others, doesn’t complain, is courteous
      • Character – takes criticism graciously, upholds principles of citizenship, morality, and ethics, follows school rules and local and state laws, is punctual, truthful, and respectful.
    • After input from all teachers, a Faculty Council composed of five teachers evaluates each candidate’s evidence of outstanding scholarship, leadership, service and character. Attendance records, discipline reports, and other school records can be considered during the selection process.
    • Selection to NHS is decided by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.

     

    Membership

    ·         Membership begins once the candidate takes a pledge at a special induction ceremony.

    ·         The new member is expected to maintain the high standards for which he or she was selected.

    ·         Membership extends beyond high school, but once a member resigns or is dismissed he or she can never regain membership.
