Curlew School is located in Curlew, Washington.  We are a small unincorporated town in northeast section of the state and we are about ten miles from the Canadian border. Our school site houses all students from grades Pre-school through 12th grade. Our enrollment is slightly under 175 students. Main employers of our area are involved in mining, logging, the school, border patrol, and a Job Corp center.  Our area has great fishing and hunting, as well as snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in the winter months.

In sports our mascot is the Cougar. We belong to District 7 of our state structured WIAA organization and are a member of the Northeast 1B league which features eleven schools.  Our classification is "1B".  Classifications are figured by number of students in grades 9-11.

Announcements

To the Curlew School District Community,

To remain in compliance with Governor Inslee’s Stay at Home, Stay Healthy order and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction's directive that schools are closed, the Curlew School Board will not meet for our regularly scheduled meeting in the month of April.

We have heard concerns from members of the community about seniors finishing, students getting schoolwork, and students having meals delivered. The Curlew School District board members have trust in the Curlew School administration, teachers, and staff to continue to provide our students meals, distance learning materials and support, and individualized instruction that works best for each student and family. Additionally, we understand that resources for seniors already on track to graduate are being made available so these students can continue on with their plans. The ingenuity and creativity of the staff is shining through as they try to plan for the possibility of a graduation ceremony in this time of physical distancing and limitation on gatherings.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions about accessing resources for a student or plans for someone graduating this year. The Board is also available to you for comments.

At this time we hope to have our regularly scheduled meeting on May 21st.

    Stay healthy and keep learning!

    Curlew School Board of Directors

  • Hello Curlew School Families,

I hope this finds you all well. We miss seeing all of you here at school.

Governor Inslee has taken additional steps to help slow the spread of COVID-19. On April 6, 2020, he announced that all schools will continue to be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. As a result, Curlew School District will remain closed through the end of the 2019-20 school year (June 19, 2020).

This continued closure is difficult for students, staff, families and the entire community. The news is particularly disappointing for students who miss their friends and teachers and raises some additional questions about events and activities that would typically be happening at this time in our school year. Curlew School is actively engaged in meeting the needs of our students. We have been working hard to provide our students with meals, contact with educators, and positive educational experiences and we want to reassure you that these will continue as we move forward. Also, we will be answering questions about alternative plans for events and activities as we know more information. Curlew School will continue to be a hub of community connection and information, and it is important to stay connected to our school website, www.curlew.wednet.edu, or Curlew School Facebook page for the most recent information. As always, please feel free to contact the main office if you have any questions, 509-779-4931.

Here is the information that has already been shared, and will remain in place for the remainder of the school year:

Continuous learning: Teachers will maintain contact with students and provide them with learning opportunities. These may be provided via bus routes, electronically, or a combination of ways.
High school seniors remain a high priority and we will continue to support them to ensure they meet the necessary requirements to graduate.
Free meals for children under age 18.
    Child care resources

For more information on meal delivery service or childcare, contact the main office, 509-779-4931 or email amykjolseth@curlew.wednet.edu

Even though these are challenging times, I hope to make the most of the opportunities before us and I encourage you to do the same.

Be safe, stay healthy and reach out to your neighbors.

    Wyatt Ladiges
